From drumline to stage performer — a musical journey worth hearing
Steve's roots in performing go all the way back to the mid-80s, when he was an integral part of the drumline with the championship-winning Morris Knolls High School Marching Band. Even then, Steve stood out from the crowd—not just for his playing, but for his ever-changing alternative hairstyles inspired by new wave icon Robert Smith of The Cure, with patterns shaved fresh almost weekly. After high school, Steve continued pursuing his passion for percussion, performing in the drumline with DCI Florida Wave, a competitive drum corps group.
But Steve's musical influences have always been wide-ranging. Rush was his first favorite band (and still is), while at the same time he was diving headfirst into hip-hop, especially Notorious B.I.G. In recent years, he's added bluegrass into heavy rotation, drawing inspiration from artists like Gregory Alan Isakov and Mandolin Orange.
For years, Steve's performances mostly took place behind the wheel—literally—drumming along on the steering wheel of his trusty Honda Odyssey (he's particularly fond of the acoustics "where the airbag is").
During COVID, Steve continued to hone his guitar skills and quickly progressed. Encouraged by a good friend to try open mic nights along beautiful Lake Mohawk in Sparta, NJ, Steve took the leap—and hasn't looked back. Today, he plays regularly at favorite local venues across Sussex and Morris Counties, as well as the Poconos, bringing a fun, welcoming energy that gets crowds singing along and on their feet.
Steve also plays snare drum with the Police Pipes and Drums of Morris County—which he especially loves during the St. Patrick's Day season! ☘️
